You may have heard that Twitter now wants to charge you to protect your account when using SMS for two factor authentication. Well, there’s no need to say goodbye to Twitter – there is a free alternative.
If you’re using SMS to secure your Twitter account, it’s time to switch to an authenticator app. SMS-based two-factor authentication (2FA) can be compromised by attackers who clone your phone number or intercept your messages.
Authenticator apps, on the other hand, generate one-time codes that are tied to your device and don’t require a phone signal. They offer a more secure way to protect your Twitter account from unauthorized access.
To get started, download an authenticator app like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator from your app store. Then, go to your Twitter security settings and enable 2FA using the app. You’ll need to scan a QR code with the app to set it up.
